Welcome!

I am Rosa Hellebust, owner, writer, photographer, and graphic designer of this website.

My interests are many and varied but they all revolve around being creative, nurturing, and learning new things all the time.

I love taking care of my family and I enjoy making our home environment a happy and soft place to land.

I have my bachelor’s degree in Anthropology.  Before settling on my major I was a Wildlife/Biology major and then a Family Studies and Human Services major. I took the long scenic route through my college career (6 years) attending 3 universities taking many courses in Biology, Writing, Ceramic Arts, Social and Cultural Theory, Psychology and Child/Human Development. I have had all kinds of jobs but most of my time was spent working in academic libraries and museums. I love reading. I love research.

I have attended two law schools (Yes, I actually went back!) and attended grad school for Anthropology, Indigenous Studies, and Museum Studies. I left my studies to focus on my growing family. When I was doing both I always felt everything was getting short shrift. Some day I may go back. Right now, I need to be the best parent I can be and for me that involves being home.

It is my firm belief that part of the modern feminist experience is to be able to have choices and to choose what is best for us and our loved ones at any given stage of our lives. It has always been a personal dream and goal of mine to be an “at home” parent. Thanks to the support of my other half, I am doing exactly what I set out to do.

My husband is my best friend. We have been married since 2002. We are raising four five children in a small house.  By small, I mean around 1250-1275 square feet if we are lucky. This was a deliberate decision so we could afford for me to be home with the kidlets on one income.

We live on the tallgrass prairie in a vibrant university town.

We have two pets; a Border Collie and a Maine Coon.

My goal is to share a post each week on different projects I am working on for fun, home, gardens, and everyday life.

Among some of the topics you may encounter are small house living, eclectic learning at home and in the community, cooking, gardening, sewing, urban homesteading/permaculture, arts/crafts/DIY remodeling projects, and, of course, our journey in parenting.

I am not an expert in anything but myself and my growing family. I don’t purport to have life all figured out. I am learning it all as I go along and adjusting my path accordingly.

If you like a post please comment. If you identify with a post please share. If you have insights or enlightenment to give; please do so in a respectful and civil manner.

Thanks for stopping by!
